Herbal Horse Treat Recipe – No Baking Required!

We love healthy foods, we love baking, and we love to share with our animals. Here is a tasty and healthy treat that your horse will gobble up! Besides other great ingredients, it contains one of our favorite herb mixes to keep your horse happy and healthy. If your four legged friend has a health concern, you can substitute the Daily Health herbs with another blend (i.e. Lamina Mix for sore feet).

  • 5 cups Daily Health Horse Herbs
  • 1 cup Flax Seeds (ground)
  • 6 cups Rice Bran (ground, stabilized, calcium fortified)
  • 1/2 cup Chia Seeds
  • 1 cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 cup Almond Butter

In a large bowl, mix Daily Health Herb Mix, chia seeds, ground flax seeds and rice bran. Melt coconut oil and mix with almond butter. Pour into dry mix and toss. This may remind you of making rice crispy treats. Keep tossing mixture until well coated. Place into silicone ice cube trays and refrigerate. When firm, they can be popped out and kept in an airtight container in a cool place.

As a treat it should only be fed in small quantities. For an average size horse, it is recommended to feed 50-100 ml (1-2 scoops) of our herb mixes daily. If you feed your horse treats that include one of our herb mixes, please adjust your horse's supplement intake that day accordingly.

Alternatively, you can omit the herb mix, in which case you need to use less coconut oil since there won't be as much dry batter.

Flax seed is great for your horse's skin and coat, it can reduce excitability, sweet itch and inflammation and adds healthy fats (especially Omega 3s).
Chia seed aids digestion, is calming and reduces inflammation, it also can help hydration and healthier skin, coat and hooves and regulate weight issues.
Rice bran is a good source of healthy fats.
Coconut oil improves gut and skin health and is known to be a 'cool' energy source for horses.
Almonds improve hoof and gut health and are anti-inflammatory.
